Lockdown: A Space Adventure
Over the last few days I have been asked if being in lockdown is good or bad for your mind and body? Interesting question and challenge. I found an awesome piece of research conducted on astronauts that were sent on a 30 day mission at the international space station. This explorative study looked at mood, problem solving skills and stress levels during this isolated time. To make it a fair comparison, a control group that was not in isolation (on planet Earth) was used.
The Findings :) * It turns out that the space team showed no increases in cortisol levels during the isolation time = ๐ฃ๐ค ๐จ๐๐๐ฃ๐๐๐๐๐๐ฃ๐ฉ ๐๐ฃ๐๐ง๐๐๐จ๐๐จ ๐๐ฃ ๐จ๐ฉ๐ง๐๐จ๐จ ๐๐ข๐ฅ๐๐๐ฉ * ๐ ๐ผ๐ผ๐ฑ ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ป๐ ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐๐ถ๐บ๐ถ๐น๐ฎ๐ฟ to those on earth * ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ๐บ ๐๐ผ๐น๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ฎ๐ ๐ป๐ผ๐ ๐ฐ๐ผ๐บ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐บ๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ฑ - in fact, the participants got better at problem solving over time
๐ช๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ป ๐๐ฒ ๐น๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ป? While the view of Earth from space is prime, it is more fun to be together to fight the virus - it also turns out that that we have "got this", we can weather our moods and we can improve problem-solving skills if we give our grey matter stimulation - TV doesn't count, neither does fake news. Be safe :)
